From a desire to invest in the French media to the entry into the capital of Air France, through the acquisition of the freight forwarder Gefco well established in North Africa, CMA CGM is on all fronts. On the strength of its excellent results – 14.8 billion dollars in profits in the first half and 17.9 billion for the whole of 2021 – the world number 3 in container transport has an appetite.
CMA CGM, weakened but not sunk
From there to forget Africa? “On the contrary”, replies Ludovic Rozan, central director and head of the group’s Africa lines CMA CGM. After two years on hold in the world container market, several shipowners, particularly Asian ones, have reduced their capacities in Africa to benefit from more promising revenues elsewhere. “We stayed and we won market share, especially from the Mediterranean basin. And we are more determined than ever to strengthen our positions,” adds Ludovic Rozan.
