They arrived almost at the same time on the Senegalese market. The Yango application, a subsidiary of the Russian multinational Yandex, has been available since December 2021 in Dakar and its suburbs. A remarkable arrival in the Senegalese capital, where a country Offensive (and costly) communication was carried out at full speed: impossible to miss the huge posters plastered on the walls of the city, the yellow taxis flocked with the brand logo, or the digital advertisements. A month later, it was the turn of SunuHeetch, a joint venture shared between the French start-up Heetch (majority) and two Senegalese partners, to enter – more discreetly – on the Dakar market.
Senegal: why the TER should be reserved for the middle class
The two actors of VTC (passenger vehicle with driver), both already present on the African continent, agree on one point. The vitality of the Senegalese market where, despite the various transport services (fast coaches, buses, TER, taxis and private companies already present on the market), users’ “search for mobility” is very strong. Even too much for the two companies, which are struggling to recruit a sufficient number of drivers to guarantee users a fast service.
