Long presided over by the entourage of ex-President Joseph Kabila, the Ministry of Mines was entrusted in April 2021, following the change in the parliamentary majority, to Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi, a close to President Felix Tshisekedi. A lawyer specializing in public law, she is “struggling to restore order” in a sector that some see as the lungs of the country’s economy.
Capcov: How is the mining sector doing in the DRC?
Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi : Today, it is doing well, even if there are still many challenges to overcome to achieve real sanitation. It’s necessary first of all remember that I have been at the head of this portfolio for a year and that, out of duty and concern for the continuity of State services, I assume the liabilities of the management of the mining sector in the DRC. I would also like to salute the efforts of my predecessors because I measure their difficulties, faced with the lackluster picture of the mining sector that they left me in legacy.
